About the Composers' Competition
JoAnn Falletta International Composition Competition
for Guitar

The biennial JoAnn Falletta International Composers’ Competition was born in 2005 and provides a composer with the golden opportunity of hearing his or her work performed by the Concerto Competitors and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, not to mention being conducted by JoAnn Falletta! The Composers’ Competition has great value in bringing exciting new repertoire and composers to the guitar.
27-year old Nikola Starcevic of Belgrade, Serbia won the 2nd biennial Composers’ Competition in 2007. Nikola is a classical guitar player, composer and arranger.
32-year old Bulgarian composer Milen Parashkevov won the inaugural Composers’ Competition in 2005. A native of Bulgaria, he currently resides in Lubbock, Texas.

PRIZES:
FIRST PRIZE:
$500.00 US,
Contract for publication of the work with Editions Orphée,
Recording of the work on Fleur de Son Classics, Ltd. by the First Prize winner of the 2008 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition,
Accommodations and per diem for 5 nights at the event with an appearance for the award presentation.
HONORABLE MENTION is awarded to the second highest scoring work and was awarded to Jacco Muller, of the Netherlands now residing in Chicago, for his composition, Sagrada Familia.
RULES:
- The Competition is open to all composers of any age. The work must be for unaccompanied, solo classical guitar (six strings) and of a duration of a minimum of four (4) minutes and a maximum of five (5) minutes.
- In order to preserve anonymity, please submit three (3) copies of the score with no composer name or identifying information other than title. Please send music typeset or printed in Finale, Sibelius and/or Score. Music offered in any other program or format will not be considered. No handwritten scores will be accepted. You must send an audio cd containing the actual computer music files or a recorded performance, labeled with title of the work, name of composer and contact info. Submit the three scores, the cd in one package that includes a sealed letter-size envelope containing your completed and signed official Application Form along with all other required materials (see checklist below).
- Application packets will be assigned a number unique to all materials in the packet and the cd will be relabeled with that number PRIOR to being sent to the judges.
- Competitors must submit with this application, an application fee of $50.00 US in the form of a check or money order payable to Western New York Public Broadcasting Association.
- Application materials must be Postmarked no later than July 15, 2007. Winner will be notified on or about September 1, 2007, and announcement of the Winner will appear on this web site at that time. Please send all materials in one complete package. Separate items will not be accepted. Any incomplete application package will be disqualified. Late applications will not be considered. All application materials will become the property of the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association and will not be returned.
